Imaginations are running rampant in Bay Area ice creameries. Forget about mint chocolate chip. In the Mission (and at selected restaurants) Humphrey Slocombe concocts flavors like Jesus Juice (wine and coke), Guiness Gingerbread, Foie Gras and Skull Splitter Root Beer. Single scoops are a steep $3.25.

In two East Bay locations Tara’s Organic offers bizarro flavors including Tasmanian Honey, Fig & Port, Banana Agave, Kaffir and Peanut Butter. Small cones are $3.80.

Not all flavors are available every day and be prepared to cool your heels. Both shops offer samples and the customers ahead of you take their sweet time in making up their minds.
