In the market for entertainment with smart laughs? Bay Area theater is pretty much of a crapshoot. The Geezer won’t name names but some big stage companies here are coasting on their reputations. Not the Marsh however. 20 years after it began, this company is having one of their best seasons ever. They just finished a run of “Geezer” with Geoff Hoyle making fun of everyone who reads this blog. His son Dan is back mocking “ Real Americans”. Don Reed in “East 14th” makes growing up with a pimp father feel like “Leave It to Beaver” at the Marsh’s new space in downtown Berkeley. There’s a slew of other one-person shows playing now. Don’t let the low production values distract you. The talent level can be stratospheric.
