SF Bay Area boomers enjoy diy oyster fests year-round on Tomales Bay near Pt. Reyes. Right now Pacific Sweetwaters, the black shelled variety, briney and dulcet, are in season. Make a picnic of it. At Hog Island they’ll provide you with oysters at $10-$15 per dozen (in their emails they did not explain the price fluctuation), lemon, hot sauce and shucking lessons.$8 per person on weekends, $5 on weekdays. Bring your own beer and wine. Reservations at least a month in advance are recommended. For frugal crustacean fans, a short distance away at the Tomales Bay Oyster Company there are similar picnic arrangements without per person fees or reservations. Both sites also serve up clams and mussels.
