If you think all those dramatic NASA space launches happen in Florida or Houston, you’re wrong. At 1 pm on Nov. 1 at the massive NASA Ames Exploration Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View you’re invited to watch the televised launch of the space shuttle Discovery. The screen is ginormous -14 feet tall and 36 feet wide. Speakers include a former astronaut with the singular name of Bo Bobko. An additional thrill is that the event is free. Ames plays a critical role in support of America’s somewhat diminished space and aeronautics programs.
