Bay Area seniors who generally steer clear of vegetarian restaurants might find their firmly held prejudices vanish at Encuentro, a newish spot near Jack London Square in Oakland. It’s small and polished with a sophisticated wine list and generally without the “faux chicken” you might have expected, though their “reuben” sandwich nearly fooled me.  It’s also not one of those places that assume you’ll  love a plate of unadorned quinoa. The menu changes frequently but everything is terrifically fresh and ingeniously flavored like a rich mushroom bourguignon, light pancake soccas, even truffled popcorn. Small plates in the $5 range
