Bay seniors who like their meals from field to plate in record time might take a junket to Duarte’s in Pescadero, halfway to Santa Cruz off Highway One. This 77-year old landmark restaurant is essentially a glorified farmstand, but oh what glorious produce if you’re a fool for just-picked artichokes, Brussels sprouts and strawberries. The James Beard Foundation acknowledged this family-run tavern as an American Classic and it is highly recommended you not leave without trying the velvety cream of artichoke soup. Pretty typical breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served on the site of what was once a stagecoach station.
