Bay Area seniors have my apologies for missing this month’s Civil War re-enactment on Angel Island. But remain calm, there is another one coming up at Roaring Camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Memorial Day weekend (May 28, 29 & 30). If you’re just there to watch take the 1880’s Redwood Forest Steam Train and comfortably check out Confederate & Union troops sniping at each other. The day’s activities include viewing soldiers’ camp life and (supposedly) surgeries performed at field hospitals. The Civil War event is $5 per person and $8 for parking. Train tickets are $24 for adults and $17 for children.
Get into the martial spirit by gearing up at the Military Antiques & Museum in Petaluma. Supposedly the largest military memorabilia shop in the world it offers belligerent stuff from the Civil War to WWII.
