Bay Area gardeners have suddenly developed a renewed affection for succulents, those waxy desert plants that look like Pixar designed them. One of the country’s outstanding collections, Bancroft Gardens in suitably hot Walnut Creek with 2.5 acres of the bizarre and the beautiful, has been around for 60 years. On Saturday August 6 from 10 to 1 they will be selling some of their fantastic flora for 30% off.

Some of the most astonishing uses of succulents can be found at Flora Grubb nursery way out past the ballpark off 3rd Street. Don’t miss the hanging gardens and succulent “painting.”
