Bay seniors who delight in being dazzled by nature, should definitely make the trek to Pacific Grove before the end of January. Once again, this charming coastal town is host to about 25,000 monarch butterflies where for reasons known only to these Danaus plexippus they settle en masse like wildly colored drapes in the local eucalyptus trees. Most of them are too young to ever have visited the Monterey Coast  before, so it’s anyone’s guess why these fragile insects migrate here from the Rockies, flying as high as 10,000 feet! Please just gaze raptly. The Pacific Grove Police Department will fine you $1,000 for “butterfly molestation.”
