Bay seniors may not realize they are missing the month-long celebration of Julia Morgan, California’s first licensed female architect and creator of over 700 buildings in the state including the majestic Hearst Castle. Exhibits saluting this eclectic genius who worked in styles beyond Arts & Crafts are running all over California including the Berkeley Environmental Design Library and the Margaret Carnegie Library at Mills College. Berkeley is home to a number of Morgan treasures including the Moorish style City Club and the Roman splendor of the Hearst Gym. BAHA, the city’s preservationist alliance, is promoting self-guided tours of three private Morgan homes. Events end on November 16.
