Bay seniors, do the names Gene Nelson, Russ Syracuse and Tom Donahue ring any bells? Think hard. They were a few of the DJs manning the turntables at radio station KYA back in the day when you were listening to your first Beatles on your cool new transistor radio. What you may not know is that KYA is alive and still kicking at 1260 FM on the dial as well as on the internet. We’re talking late 50s, early 60’s, the era of Golden Gate Greats heard on the Boss of the Bay. For those in the North Bay tune into KWVK, 102.7 FM out of Santa Rosa. For an even deeper dive into the subject check out the Bay Area Radio Museum which is in the midst of a campaign to build a permanent site.
