Bay seniors curious to see what arts are incubating in downtown Oakland need only walk the block of 25th Street between Broadway and Telegraph. The north side of the street is still mostly auto shops. The south side’s handsome brick structures are a hot spot – filling up with stores and galleries – at least of dozen of them – some tucked inside each other, some open workshops where you can chat with working craftspeople, sculptors, jewelry makers, clothing designers, photographers. This is not the usual post-grad student art. The talent level is steadily rising here. Saturdays are most reliable as far as shops being open. As is every first Friday night of the month when the whole neighborhood detonates with millenial energy.
