Bay seniors stranded on a city street corner with no taxis in sight now have some nifty up-to-the-nano second tech options. Whip out your smart phone and log on to Lyft (the ones with the pink moustaches) or Sidecar and request a ride. These faux taxis don’t take money. It’s all done with your credit card. You do have to register on their confusingly simple sites ahead of time and at least Lyft requires Facebook membership. They don’t have fares. They have “suggested donations” which are considerably less than taxis. All drivers have had background checks and are insured, in case you were worried. And thanks to a decision last month from the PUC, they are now legal.
