Bay seniors know that City Hall and the Opera House do not have the only spectacular staircases in town. On Lyon Street between Broadway and Pacific in the plutocratic environs of Pacific Heights 288 steps rise up the hill providing awesome views of the Palace of Fine Arts dome and the glittering Bay. You also get generous glimpses of the Italianate homes and manicured gardens of the monied families who live there. The stairs were built in 1916. At the top you will find an iron gate which leads into the Presidio. Parking available at both the top and the bottom. If it looks too strenuous for you from the bottom, you can always just descend it. Doesn’t Senator Feinstein live around here?
