Bay seniors know we have a baby Big Sur just south of Pacifica, on that corner of the coast where Highway 1 is habitually closed by rock slides. No longer. With the completion of tunnels a mile away, the former highway is now open for walkers, bicyclists, horses and dogs on leashes. It is stunning. The soaring rock cliffs would not be out of place in southern Utah. Spiking out of the Pacific they resemble a Chinese landscape painting. And below you the surf churns like all those movie scenes showing the earth being born. The paved trail is 1.3 miles each way with parking at either end. Free.
