Bay seniors are mistaken if they think Silicon Valley is nothing but traffic and techno sprawl. Jasper Ridge is a secret, 1200-acre wilderness, rich in wildlife and, especially in the late afteroon, animal life. It is a vast outdoor laboratory west of the Stanford University campus. Major biological and environmental research occurs here, notably that done by Paul Ehrlich. Don’t plan on just dropping in. You are required to schedule one of the docent-led, two-hour tours which are offered Thursday to Sunday through May. No pets, no children under 14.
