Bay seniors know this is the time of year to avoid the places where those wonderful spendthrifts – our tourists – like to congregate. Still I recommend rubbing shoulders with them out at the edge of the continent at the historic Cliff House. Have a drink at day’s end from the bar perched above Ocean Beach. The sea lions have decamped to Pier 39 but if the wind is up (and when isn’t it?) the paragliders will be out in force, flying above the surf and BELOW you. Afterwards take a stroll on the utterly flat Land’s End trail with its jaw-dropping views of the Golden Gate. Sigh a prayer of thanks to the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy.
