Bay seniors, like me, have no patience for waiting in line for a cup of coffee that takes 5 minutes to brew and tastes like Ethiopian topsoil. But I am willing to make an exception when I visit the new Blue Bottle Café in the shambling neighborhood on Broadway across from Oakland Tech High School. Blue Bottle has taken over the semi-abandoned deco W.C. Morse building and turned it into a café so airy and pristine you could perform brain surgery there. It is worth visiting just for the avant garde lighting fixtures and flower arrangements. A third of the space is given over to a repair shop for expensive brewing machines and separated from the café by a rippling floor to ceiling clear plastic curtain. The pastries are not bad either.
