Bay seniors hungry for serious cultural stimulation are encouraged to join Gertrude, a modern day salon modeled after Ms.Stein’s celebrated Parisian get-togethers. It has been a success in New York where intimate evenings are centered around visits to artist’s studios and other cultural venues. Soon it is coming to San Francisco and inaugural invitations are being extended. Already up and running is the Luncheon Society which for several years has been having monthly lectures with Q&A’s along with a meal in the City. Typical speakers include Paul Krugman, Joyce Carole Oates and Temple Grandin. Considerably more intimate and participatory than City Arts & Lectures.
