Bay seniors retreating from the depressing marine layer clamped over the City (i.e. The Fog) may want to bask in the solar splendor around Lake Berryessa in Napa County, about 1.5 hours from SF. A great place to start is the Smittle Creek Trail, a five mile, mostly flat round trip (and the only developed trail at the Lake) with access to swimming (the Lake is 80 degrees!), fishing, picnicking and the golden grandeur of California grasslands at the height of summer. Formerly a Spanish land grant it became a 15-mile long reservoir when dams were built in the 50’s and 60’s. In this drought year the Lake is now 33 feet below the top of the spillway.
