Bay seniors may have missed the news that we have our first underwater state park. You’ll find it 88 miles north of the City at Salt Point. The Gerstle Cove Marine Reserve, open to scuba diving, is just one of the pleasures of this rugged coast with over 20 miles of trails ribboning along the rocky bluffs and coves, nearly empty beaches, through a pygmy forest, a 317-acre rhododendron preserve and pine woodlands. Generous fishing including abalone and rich mushroom hunting if and when it ever rains. Sandstone from Salt Point was used in building SF’s first streets.Camping facilities. Parking $8. Sadly no dogs on trails or beaches as part of the anti-canine movement sweeping the state.
