Bay seniors who are wondering where all the Hare Krishnas have gone will find brigades of them (3,000 last year) at 11pm on Aug 23 in Golden Gate Park when the Rathayatra Parade begins. It’s the 49th annual celebration here of the supreme deity Lord Krishna, a holiday that dates back 2000 years. The centerpieces are three wildly, ornately, flower-laden chariots which you are encouraged to pull, ending up in Sharon Meadow. Music, dance performances, exhibits and a free vegetarian meal. Speaking of religion in public places I’ve always wondered how Jehovah’s Witnesses were allowed to set up their shop in City Bart stations. Anyone know about this?
