You’ll need good legs to tackle most local, mountainous hikes but for a gentle ramble I recommend the easy, flat, paved trail from Half Moon Bay, parallel to Highway 1,  8-miles roundtrip with serene views of the Pacific after the fog has blown off. Fields of poppies and aloes border the path and if it gets warm you can jump to the beach for a bracing dip in the waves. If you get peckish stop for a beer at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company. $10 parking fee.
