What was it like here before John Sutter caught a glimpse of gold nuggets? You’ll get a feel for hacienda life this Saturday from 12-4 at the annual Rancho Day Fiesta at the Sanchez Adobe in Pacifica. Built between 1842 and 1846 the site was also a center for Ohlones, Spanish, Mexicans and American settlers and is now maintained by the San Mateo Country Historical Association. Expect to get an earful of historic music, join in the authentic dancing, learn some early trades like making corn husk dolls and, of course, dig into the early California food. It’s free but be grateful and make a donation.
