If you want to know more about monarch butterflies and the depletion of their population, you could  head to the verdant Gamble Garden in Palo Alto on October 12 from 9-12 for the Monarch Fest.  Enjoy 2.5 acres of manicured gardens and the restored 1902 home, then hear lectures on how deforestation is endangering the creatures’s survival, plus life cycle displays and arts and crafts and costume parades for your grandkids. It’s all free but registration is required.
